Professional Cleanings

Protecting one of your most valuable assets your smile by coming in for regular hygiene visits can do much more than just give you a clean feeling. For patients with insurance benefits, many companies emphasize the importance of preventative care by allowing two cleanings per year. Since a patient works hard for their dental benefits as part of employment, every missed cleaning means more dollars for the insurance company to keep! Allow us to help you get the most from your dental benefit plan.

More than cleaning is accomplished during a hygiene visit. Since 3 out of 4 adults have some form of periodontal disease, regular visits help to establish a trend whereby we can identify changes in your mouth caused by lifestyle, pregnancy, illness and aging. The exam during a visit also inspects for any signs of mouth cancer and judges the integrity of your existing dentistry. Thorough home care of flossing and brushing goes a long way for good dental health, however, only a professional cleaning can properly clean your teeth and gums so that your sparkling smile can last a lifetime.

Rota-dent™ Professional Rotary Instrument

New to our office is the Rota-dent™ Professional Rotary Instrument by Pro-Dentec. Pro-Dentec has responded to the uncanny number of periodontal disease cases by providing dentistry with an at-home instrument much like the one used by hygienists during a professional cleaning. Although the instrument is highly recommended to all patients with periodontal involvement, many of our patients without periodontal disease also opt for this extraordinary machine. Not sold outside of dental offices, the use of the Rota-dent instrument is directly monitored by the hygienist and home care results are remarkable.

Veneers

Enhancing your smile so that you can look your absolute best is a very personal decision. The tiniest change can make a huge difference in the way you feel about yourself. When your smile is marred by decay, permanent stain, chips, or cracks we can restore your smile's natural beauty. Today's dental technology empowers patients to opt for want-based dentistry so that they can smile with confidence. Depending upon your particular situation, a veneer can last for years. Because veneers are stronger then simple bonding, veneers are also more resistant to stains and chipping. Although veneers are strong and last a long time you have to do your part by taking good care of them.

Crowns and Bridges

Often referred to as "caps," crowns are used to strengthen or restore the appearance of your natural teeth. A crown is placed on a natural tooth after that tooth has been prepared into the shape of a post. It covers the entire tooth and can be made of gold or a tooth colored porcelain. Much stronger than a veneer, a crown will be less resistant to chipping.

When a missing tooth leaves a space in the smile, a bridge simply spans the space and drops a tooth into the space while it uses the teeth next to the space as a stabilizer. The stabilizer teeth have been prepared as crowns to hold the bridge. Good home care and regular dental checkups to protect a patient's dental investment will allow crowns and bridges to last for a very long time.

Dental Implants

Dr. Peters is pleased to offer this advanced dental alternative, as more and more patients choose non-removable tooth replacements. When teeth are lost, dental implants act as metal anchors that are surgically placed into the jawbone in order to hold permanent replacement teeth or dentures. Patients who have worn removable dentures for a long time may notice loss of bone causing a problem for the denture to stay in place. Advanced procedures to actually build up the bone again allow for the placement of implants to hold the denture just as natural teeth are held in the jawbone. Implants offer improved biting pressure, eliminate sore spots and slipping caused by removable dentures and function remarkably like natural teeth, giving most patients a renewed sense of self-confidence. Dental implants are a worthwhile investment for many patients and as long as the patient is committed to good oral hygiene, the patient is left with the same original healthy smile that they remember from the past.

Technology

With the installation of modern digital imaging software, the x-rays taken at Dr. Peters' office expose the patient to 50 - 70% less radiation than with the old fashioned x-rays films that required developing. These new digital x-rays are processed in far less time than before and are ready within minutes on the chair side computer monitor available for the patient to clearly view dental situations at hand. Upon request, the patient can walk out of the office with a copy of the x-ray for further consultations with a specialist or other family members. Additionally, x-rays can be submitted by Dr. Peters to specialists or insurance benefit companies by email, eliminating the need for paper!

Sterilization

State of the art sterilization procedures provide patients and staff with complete protection from cross contamination. Indiana University conducts monthly inspections of both of our steam autoclaves and together with using ultrasound techniques, cold sterilization and plastic film barriers over every switch, button and instrument panel, we conform to the standardized OSHA requirements. Ultra-violet light water purification units or self contained water reservoirs insure that the quality of water being used during the dental procedure is pure. The staff is constantly improving and monitoring all areas of office cleanliness.

Visual Understanding

Our focus in serving our patients well is evidenced by Dr. Peters commitment to educating patients about every facet of dental care that concerns them. New to the dental chair is a chair side computer monitor for the patient to easily view x-rays and cosmetic images taken by our reduced radiation digital x-ray machine and intra-oral camera. The images can be enhanced in order to demonstrate a point Dr. Peters is trying to communicate and patients can request that the image be printed so that they can carry the image with them when they leave the office.
